Target Chicago State Street

Winner, AIA - Minnesota, Honor Award

This project, for which I was a collaborator and designer at Target corporation, employs digital technology and parametric design in an attempt to bring dialogue between the Target brand and Louis Sullivan's masterpiece, the Carson Pirie Scott building. Using original scans and photographs of the molds used to form the ornamental facade, a pattern was created using both the naturally-inspired ornamentation of the cast iron details and the bulls-eye inherent to Target corporation. What resulted was a perforated aluminum screen, digitally designed and fabricated using parametric technology and CNC fabrication. The screens are both a homage the brilliance of Sullivan's original design and the design-oriented brand of Target corporation.
